Pests & Disease Management
Rice Stem Borer

  • For management of Rice Stem Borer:
    • The larvae of these insects bore into the stem and cause damage from July to October.
    • The affected young plants show dead-hearts (yellowing and drying of central shoot) whereas the old ones produce empty ear heads which turn white and stand erect.

    For management,
    • Broadcast the field with Chlorantraniliprole 0.4% GR @4kg/acre at 15-25 days after transplanting.
    • Foliar spray of Deltamethrin 11% w/w SC @ 60-75 ml per acre at 30-40 days after transplanting followed by Chlorantraniliprole 18.5% w/w SC @ 60 ml per acre or Flubendiamide 20% WDG 80 ml @ 60 gms per acre at 45-50 days after transplanting.
    • Further application of any of these insecticides may be repeated as and when damage reaches economic threshold level (5% dead hearts at panicle initiation stage).
    • Prefer neem-based bio-pesticide at pest initiation.
    • Avoid taking ratoon crops.
