For management of Plant Hoppers:
Management Practices
• Monitor the crop regularly from 30 days after transplanting.
• Slightly tilt and tap rice hills at weekly intervals to check hopper population.
• Spray only when the population reaches ETL of 5 planthoppers per hill.
• Avoid excessive use of nitrogen fertilizers.
• Maintain proper drainage and avoid excess standing water.
• Use knapsack sprayer and direct spray towards the base of plants for effective control.
• At hopper burn stage, spray affected patches along with 3–4 metre surrounding area immediately.
Time of Spray
• Start spraying from July to October when hopper population appears in the field.
• First spray should be done immediately after ETL reaches 5 hoppers per hill.
• Repeat spray only if hopper population persists after first spray.
Recommended Chemicals for 1 Acre
Benzpyrimoxan 10 SC @ 400 mL per acre.(OR)Flupyrimin 10 SC @ 300 mL per acre.(OR)Quinalphos 25 EC @ 800 mL per acre.(OR) Azadirachtin 5% @ 80 mL per acre.
