Harvesting Harvesting for spring maize

  • • Spring maize is generally ready for harvesting at 110–120 DAS, depending on hybrid maturity. Harvest when the husk turns dry and brown, kernels are fully developed, hard, and show black layer formation. Timely harvesting is essential due to rising temperatures during maturity, which may affect grain quality if delayed. Combine harvesting can be adopted for efficient and quick harvesting. Use shellers or dehusker-cum-shellers for grain separation. Dry the grains properly and maintain less than 14% moisture for long-term storage and to avoid storage pests and fungal contamination.
