Land Preparation
-
With the onset of early summer showers, the area will be ploughed four to five times or dug completely to bring the soil to fine tilth.
-
Beds with an inter-space of 50 cm between them are made with a width of about 1 m, a height of 30 cm, and a length that is convenient.
-
When growing an irrigated crop, ridges are spaced 40 cm apart.
-
Solarization of beds for 40 days using transparent polythene sheets is recommended in places prone to rhizome rot disease and worm infestations.
