Weed Management
1. Pre-emergence
-
Spray of pendimethalin 30 EC @ 2.5 liters in 500 liters/ha or pretilachlor 50 EC @ 500ml/acre immediately after sowing while the soil is wet.
-
The spray should never be delayed beyond two days after sowing. Spraying should be done in the evening and it should be ensured that there is adequate moisture in top soil.
-
For DSR, lucky seeder has an attachment which enables spray of weedicide with the seeding process.
Post-emergence
-
Early post-emergence (within 10-12 days of transplanting): Early post-emergence spray of 40 ml per acre penoxsulam at 10-12 days of transplanting in 150 litres of water, particularly in fields where continuous standing of water is a problem, provides effective control of grass weeds.
-
Post-emergence (within 20-25 days of transplanting): Spray 100 ml per acre bispyribac using 150 litres of water, at 20-25 days of transplanting. In crop infested with Leptochloa chinensis, apply 400 ml per acre fenoxaprop at 20-25 days of transplanting in 150 litres of water.
Control of sedges and broadleaf weeds:
-
For control of sedges and broadleaf weeds, spray 30 g per acre metsulfuron or 50g ethoxysulfuron or 40g bensulfuron methyl or 16g azimsulfuron or 8g per acre metsulfuron methyl +chlorimuron ethyl in 150 litres of water at 20 days of transplanting.
-
Use different group of recommended herbicides in rotation to avoid the problem of herbicide resistance in weeds.
-
Delay in application of herbicides results in poor control of weeds.
-
Do not spray the herbicide in standing water and irrigation may be applied one day after spray. The spray should be done on a clear and calm day for getting good efficacy from herbicides.
